BGSC is sponsoring 5 rooms within Solomon’s Temple to provide supplies and and resources necessary to provide service to the women and children who depend on this center. Solomon’s Temple is a holistic emergency and transitional facility for homeless women and their children. The core programs of shelter, food, family coaching and employment services are designed to help guide homeless families toward lives of independence. Solomon’s Temple utilizes a family coaching model versus the standard case management approach to facilitate the progression of our families. Under this approach, families are not managed, but rather manage the execution of their own goals with the family coach providing supplemental support. Understanding that the ability to make productive decisions and take control of life happenings is a learned ability, Solomon’s Temple works to cultivate executive functioning skills within each family. Executive functioning skills help individuals navigate stressful situations so that they are able to contextualize their situation, think critically about next steps and effectively execute on a plan.

Meet Our Teacher!

Felicia Ali, J.D.  graduated from Howard University in 2009 with a Bachelors in Modern Language and Literature with a concentration in Spanish. After briefly teaching high school Spanish in Miami, Florida, she attended Nova Southeastern University and obtained a Juris Doctorate degree in 2013. She currently runs a non-profit organization that empowers youth and disabled adults through a plethora of services. Growing up in Miami, Spanish has always had a special place in her heart. She began formally learning the language at age 8 through bilingual immersion schools and was fluent by high school. The decision to major in Spanish in college was an easy one. Howard University allowed her to connect to the Afro-Latino culture and she fell in even deeper love with the language. Throughout the years, she has continued to connect others to the Spanish language and culture through private classes.
