Meet The Woman Behind the Scenes

Carmen, a proud Howard University alumna hailing from Prince George, VA, now calls Atlanta home after residing in Washington, DC for eight years. Carmen is also a proud alumna of Jack & Jill of America. A multifaceted individual, she's a content creator, published author, and former TEDx Host, championing the essence of "Black Girl Magic" unfailingly. With a passion for the arts cultivated during her high school years at The Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts, where she majored in Theater, Carmen has immersed herself in Atlanta's entertainment scene since her relocation, contributing to TV productions, event management, and conducting interviews with luminaries such as Kevin Hart, Will Packer, Musiq Soulchild, and LaLa Anthony, among others. For some time, Carmen also served as a brand manager and Public Relations assistant to Dr. Heavenly Kimes of Bravo’s hit show, “Married to Medicine.” A former radio host, Carmen continues to put her communications degree to good use as the current co-host of The Friendly Black Girls Podcast.  

Not only is Carmen the Founder & CEO of The Black Girl Social Club, but she is also the Founder and Executive Director of BGSC JR, the non-profit leg of BGSC. Known among her peers as the social catalyst, Carmen effortlessly brings women together and fosters connections. Her impact extends beyond the glitz of the entertainment industry; she has dedicated a significant portion of her life to educating and mentoring underserved youth, particularly young girls. Currently, Carmen sits on the Advisory Board for The Birth Advocacy Project (BEAP), advocating for equitable access to quality prenatal and perinatal care for families of color, while also serving as a council member for Southern Black Girls, an organization dedicated to sparking Black Girl Joy.

Carmen continues to be a sought-after business advisor, having demonstrated years of consistent excellence and business acumen. Having received an Entrepreneurship Certification from Cornell University, and a Master's in Public Administration from Clark Atlanta University, she is determined to never stop learning, and developing the necessary skills that help propel her towards success. Carmen is also a member of the Black Excellent Society, a Black talent incubator community, connecting cultural leaders nationwide.  

Her accolades include being a recipient of the "Woman of Community" Award at the annual Galentine’s Day Gala in Atlanta and a seat on Martell Cognac’s Swift List, recognizing entrepreneurs effecting positive change in their communities. Carmen has also been recognized by the Atlanta Black Business Ball, as well as AT&T for her impactful work. With a steadfast commitment to empowering Black women worldwide, Carmen strives to inspire them to embrace their purpose, speak their truth, and exemplify authentic sisterhood for future generations.
